From Offer to Ownership: The Domain Transfer Process Explained
Buying a domain is only the first step. The transfer process that follows is where many buyers feel uncertain, so we are walking through exactly what happens after you complete a purchase in the Snap Domains Marketplace.
Step 1: Authorization code
Every domain transfer requires an authorization code, sometimes called an EPP code, from the current registrar. We obtain this on the seller side so you do not have to chase it.
Step 2: Initiate the transfer
You receive instructions to initiate the transfer at your registrar of choice. You enter the authorization code and confirm the request. Most registrars send a confirmation email to verify you are the intended recipient.
Step 3: Waiting period
Transfers typically take five to seven days to complete. This is a registry-level waiting period, not something we control, but we monitor it and follow up if anything stalls.
Step 4: Confirmation
Once the transfer completes, the domain appears in your registrar account and you have full control. We confirm the handoff and close out the transaction.
