What to Know Before You Buy a .si Domain

Buying a .si name is straightforward, but a few registry rules catch first time buyers off guard. Here is what to check before you commit.

Registration and eligibility

The .si registry does not require local presence, so individuals and companies anywhere can register. Names are registered for a minimum of one year through a registrar. Confirm the renewal price before you buy, since promotional first year rates are common and the second year usually costs more.

Domain authorization

Transfers between registrars are controlled by an authorization code issued from the registry. If you are acquiring a .si from a current owner, insist the transfer is handled through a broker or escrow, and confirm the code is issued at the point of sale rather than days later.

DNS and hosting

The extension carries no technical restrictions. It points at any host and supports standard records. Check that your registrar exposes full DNS management, because some resellers offer only basic forwarding.

Trademark check

A country code does not remove trademark risk. Search the name you want in your target markets before you buy, and avoid names that closely match an established brand.

If you would rather have someone run the acquisition, our brokerage team handles .si names regularly.
